Florence Loewen

Obituary of Florence Loewen

Florence Loewen (nee Friesen), age 68 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Boundary Trails Health Centre. Florence was born on March 25, 1951 in Morris, MB to Peterand Dora Friesen. As a young girl, she attended the Rosenhoff School for Grades 1-8 and Rosenort Collegiate for Grade 9. She helped out on the family farm with five sisters and three brothers. Her father passed away when she was 11 years old.

Florence met Pete when they were teenagers at a baseball game when she stepped on his transistor radio. They were married several years later on February 20, 1971. They had three children, Gloria, Melayni and Douglas. As years went on Gloria married Chris Dueck and had Megan and Carter, Megan married Jordan Wiebe. Melayni married James Schwab and had Payden, Hannah, Micah and Levi.  Douglas married Tiffany and had Cally. She absolutely loved being a Grandma to her eight grandchildren!

Florence was pre-deceased by her parents, and her oldest sister Gladys.  She is survived by 3 brothers, 4 sisters and their families.

Pete and Florence lived in a trailer on Pete’s family’s land for the first six months of marriage, and then moved to Rosenort where they resided for 47 years together. Florence loved being a full-time mom but also enjoyed working part-time outside the home. After all her children finished high school, she started work as an education assistant at the Rosenort School which she started in 1999 and worked for 17 years. Her favourite part of the job was loving children and helping them learn.

Florence loved caring for and helping other people, but most of all she loved spending time with her Jesus, her honey, and her family. Both Megan and Carter would frequently pop by for food and time with Grandma, where she shared her wisdom about life and Jesus.  This filled her heart with joy. She often traveled to Lac du Bonnet to babysit the four Schwabs (Payden, Hannah, Micah and Levi). They would anxiously await her arrival as she always brought them Timbits as a treat. When Florence spent time with Cally, they were often found doing quiet activities like colouring or reading.

Pete and Florence accepted Jesus as their Saviour in 1976 and were baptized together in January 1977. Pete and Florence modeled a marriage for their children filled with affection and open communication. It was obvious to anyone who saw them that even after many, many years of marriage, they were still deeply in love.

After a lengthy illness, Florence was released from this earth. In the midst of our sorrow, we are filled with joy knowing that Florence is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus. The family wishes to thank Dr. Woelk, the nurses and staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for their kindness and care. A big thank you to Auntie Susan for her never ending support.  We thank all our family and friends for their love during this time.
