Obituary of William Lawrence Sutherland

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William (Bill) Sutherland with his wife of 68 years at his side at Morris Hospital on January 14, 2024. He leaves behind his wife Joan, his Children David (Monica), Kathleen (Leonard), Joanne, son-in-law Gordon, his 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. William was born on June 4, 1934 in Leith, Scotland. The youngest of 10 children, to David Alexander and Jessie Sutherland. He married Joan Worrall on May 6, 1955. They had six children, Elizbeth Georgeson (born in Edinburgh), David Alexander (born in Windsor, Ontario), Kathleen Ann (born in Halifax, Nova Scotia), Joanne, Sandra, & Jenny (all born in Winnipeg, Manitoba). They immigrated to Canada in June 1957. William was a diver in the Canadian Navy until settling in Winnipeg where he worked as an Electrician for the CNR until his retirement. They moved to Niverville in 1987. William was officially diagnosed with Dementia in 2020. He stayed in his home with home care until June 2023, when he was admitted to St. Pierre Hospital until November 30 when he was moved to Morris Hospital. William was predeceased by his parents, siblings, his two daughters (Elizabeth 01/21/2023), (Jenny 03/11/2021), & son-in-law (Victor 07/05/2010). We want to thank all the nurses and staff at St. Pierre and Morris Hospitals. William has been cremated and there will be a small gathering at a later date.
