Obituary of Denis Marcel Cadieux

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing at St. Boniface Hospital of Denis Marcel Cadieux on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the age of 74. Denis is survived by his beloved wife Gladys (nee Jorgenson), cherished children Danielle, Dwight (Lauren), Margaux (Daniel Hoffman) and four adored granddaughters Emerson, Kenzie, Autumn and Charlie. Also surviving Denis are sister/brother-in-laws: Pauline Cadieux, Lynette Cadieux, Carole & Lee Koop, Bonnie Clement & Les Abrams, Debra & Ross Forman, Sharon & Don Eadie, Lori Jorgenson & Doug Bedford, Brenda Jorgenson-Low & David Low and many special nieces & nephews. Also the dear children of Merna & George McClelland & their families. Denis is predeceased by his parents Marie-Paule (Laurin) & Jean Cadieux, brothers Jean-Paul & Roger, in-laws Kathleen & Edward Jorgenson and brother-in-law Luc Clement. Denis grew up in Letellier, MB where he had a wonderful care free childhood and honed his hockey skills for many hours at the local rink. As he got older he played hockey for the Letellier Blues and, later, oldtimers hockey. He then graduated to be the best armchair coach ever for his favorite teams be it hockey or football and was a sports fan through and through. Denis worked for a time helping his father/brother farm, and held jobs at Inco Mines in Thompson as well as the sugar beet plant in Letellier. After trying all these career paths he settled on working for the Grenville Services sign company founded by Grenville Coy. After a short period of time Denis bought the company and had a successful 37 year long career in the sign business. Denis sold the company in 2009 and retired thus beginning the next chapter of his life. During the next fifteen years he travelled, golfed regularly in the summer at Crescent Drive, curled in two different leagues at the Granite and volunteered faithfully once a week with the Meals-On-Wheels program. Denis also found there were lots of projects to be undertaken after buying a lakeside cottage on St. Malo Lake in 2010. Denis felt so fulfilled in all these retirement endeavours. Denis had a profound love for his family and was so happy to have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his dearest Gladys in June, 2023. Denis lived life simply but fully and with much gratitude. He was patient, kind and supportive of those around him, be they large gestures of help or being in the moment of one's company. Although he had a quiet demeanour he had a wonderful sense of humour and left us with so many great memories. Denis was a welcoming and generous host with his home and cottage being the centre of many great gatherings. He will be missed beyond measure but leaves a legacy of love, laughter and friendship. We acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation all that the Cardiac Sciences & Critical Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital (SBH) did to try to bring Denis through his devastating cardiac events. In lieu of flowers consider planting a tree in his memory, donating to SBH Foundation (Cardiac) or to a charity of your choice.
