Obituary of David NJ Penner

David NJ Penner, age 94 years of Morris, MB, formerly of Brandon, MB passed away August 31, 2024 at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris. He is survived by three sons: David (Evelyn), Jacob (Nancy) and John (Lori): one daughter: Cathrin Spearing; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, 1 sister, Susie Thiessen; 1daughter in law Eileen and their families. David was predeceased by his wife Tina, parents David JF and Aganetha Penner, son Henry Penner, son in law Kelly Spearing, sister Neta, brother-in-law Peter Unrau, Henry Thiessen and Isaac F. Driedger. David was born June 3, 1930, in Grimsby, Plum Coulee, MB. He married Tina Thiessen, July 19, 1951 in Grimsby. David was raised on a farm south of Plum Coulee and continued to work on the farm after marrying Tina. David and Jacob were born in Winkler during that time. In 1956 they moved to Wakapawwhere he worked on a farm. During his time there he learned the mechanic trade in Killarney. Son, Henry was born in Killarney during this time. 1960 David moved his family to Medora, MB, to take on a job at Tweed’s Garage as a mechanic. Catherin and John were both born in Deloraine. Eventually, he acquired the garage with a partner and called it Medora Service. Over his career he had been able to keep up with changes in the automative and farm equipment industry. He took many courses and had many diplomas and certificates on his resume. Dad suffered a severe stroke in 1992 at age of 63, paralyzing his right side. Their lives changed drastically. It was necessary for them to sell their home, business and many possessions. Mom never obtained a drivers license, and it was important and necessary that dad get the medical care he needed. There would be lots of appointments and rehabilitation. He learned to write with his left hand and became very mobile with the help of a scooter. His scooter got him in trouble more than once. Dad was an active member of Medora Lions Club and then the Brandon Lions Club. Prior to his stroke he loved working with his hands: woodworking, building furniture, restoring vehicles and tractors. He was always ready to help anyone or give them advice on a project when asked. A private graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 25 at the Morris Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Red River Valley Lodge for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our dad during his stay. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Red River Valley Lodge, 136 Ottawa Avenue, Morris MB., R0G 1K0.
