Obituary of Julie Vermette
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, memère and grand-memère, on Sunday, April 2, 2017 with family at her side.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband Rene, son Don and wife Judy, their children Craig (Melissa) and Kyle (Nicole), her two daughters Michelle and husband Michel Gregoire, their children Rachelle (Jason) and Paul (Kaitlin); Gisele and husband Curtis Poersch, her children Jason Bourcier (Christine) and Richard Bourcier (Ashley). Her seven great grandchildren Keenan, Kaiya, Nicole, Kade, Jason, Jack and Natasha will miss putting a big smile on grand memere’s face. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law’s: Joe (Helen) and Ann Kon, Rene’s three brothers, one sister, one brother- in-law and their families.
Mom was born in Kilkenny, MB to John & Jessie Kon. She was the youngest daughter of eight children. She grew up near Fisher Branch and after she and Dad were married in 1961 they moved to Aubigny and began their beautiful farm life.
Besides raising 3 children, she enjoyed gardening and camping. She did all her own canning & excelled at cooking and baking. She perfected everything from holupchi to tourtière. Taking a course in cake decorating, all our birthday cakes were extra special. She enjoyed curling in her younger years and took pleasure in watching it on TV in recent years. She also worked at the lamp factory in Aubigny where she formed lasting friendships.
After the flood of 1997 Mom and Dad decided to make Morris their new home however with diabetes and cancer taking a toll on Mom, the decision was made to move her to the Red River Valley Lodge in September 2015. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Lodge for their excellent care of our beautiful Mother.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Saint Maurice Catholic Church (253 Main Street, Morris, Manitoba). Viewing and prayers will be held at the Church prior to the service starting at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Julie can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Cancer Care Manitoba.
