Obituary of Dwayne Wiebe

Dwayne “Bubba” Wiebe was born on September 23, 1965 in Morris, Manitoba to Judy Lorene Wiebe and Kenneth Edward Wiebe.

A happy, healthy child, Dwayne was always getting into trouble. Whether it was bringing home raccoons, cutting off his sister Pearl’s ponytail, or knocking out his teeth.

Despite their differences, Dwayne and Pearl were thick as thieves, through childhood and through their entire adult lives. 

As a child, Dwayne was extremely close to his Grandpa, who we know as Gramps. His Mom can remember a time when Dwayne was driving the bakery truck, despite being well under legal driving age.

When Dwayne was a teenager, he was a car enthusiast. His most prized earthly possession was a bright yellow Ford Torino, affectionately called the “banana”. He would later go on to replace the “banana” with a black Monte Carlo. He was also the proud owner of a Honda motorcycle.

In February of 1985, his sister Pearl, met the love of her life, Russell, and Dwayne gained a forever brother.

In June 1986 Dwayne met Barb, who would later go on to become the Mother of his three “ladies”. They had a whirlwind romance. Dwayne sold his motorcycle, to pay for the engagement ring. In October 1988, they were married in Winkler, Manitoba.

11 short months later, in September 1989, they welcomed their first of three daughters, Amber Michelle. Much to Dwayne’s surprise, the car seat didn’t fit in the back of the Monte Carlo, and he was forced to sell his second car love.

In October of 1991, the second of three daughters was born, Megan Ashley. Dwayne was so proud that he was the Father of the biggest baby in the nursery.

In April of 1994, the third daughter, Chelsea Nicole, was welcomed by her parents and her big sisters with open arms.

Dwayne was a proud Father to his “ladies”. He was their number one supporter, number one fan, and was never shy to provide endless unwarranted “Dad advice”.

Through his adult life, Dwayne was an avid hunting enthusiast, and a diehard heavy metal fan. He never missed an opportunity to go to a concert if one of his bands were playing, no matter how many times he’d seen them before. He spent a small fortune putting gear into his car, so he could listen to his music way too loud.

He was a man of simple taste, but he didn’t hold back when something wasn’t up to his standards. He always looked forward to Sunday dinners, and was an excellent host. Dwayne was King of the grill, with burgers being his specialty.

In October of 2015, Dwayne was promoted from Dad to Papa. He welcomed a granddaughter, Aubrey Nhi. She lit up his life like nothing before, and he lit up hers. Dwayne was and will forever remain Aubrey’s favorite person.

In August 2016, Dwayne was met with a cruel diagnosis of lung cancer. Dwayne underwent numerous different treatments, none of which could change his fate. He fought with everything he had, and never gave up, despite being met with countless obstacles.

On July 28, 2017, he lost his battle. Dwayne passed peacefully, at Concordia Hospital, surrounded by those who mattered most.

He is survived by his daughters: Amber (Joseph) Tu, Megan Prokay (Sylvain Bourrier) and Chelsea Wiebe (Brendon Tucker-Normand); grand daughter Aubrey, his mother Judy Lorene Wiebe and one sister, Pearl (Russell) Paetkau.

Dwayne was predeceased by his father Kenneth Wiebe.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Lowe Farm Bergthaler Church at 11:00am.

A private family burial of the urn will take place in the Lowe Farm Cemetery.

A reception will follow the funeral at the Lowe Farm Community Centre.
