Obituary of Ernest Albert Giese
Ernest passed away on August 16, 2017, at the Morris General Hospital after a short illness at the age of 98 years.
He is survived by his children Marlene Klassen (Harold), Rod (Heather), Daryl (Janet), and grandchildren Ashleigh Klassen, Brett Klassen, Lauren Giese and Kyle Giese.
Ernest was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie (2012), his parents August and Augusta, brother Arthur, sister Thelma and several half-brothers and sisters.
Ernie was born and raised in the Brunkild and Morris areas. In the late 1940’s Ernie fell in love and married Marjorie Annell. Together they were lifelong followers of the Lutheran faith. He had many jobs throughout his life. The highlights were his early years as a farmer on family land near Lowe Farm, delivering furnace fuel oil for Gulf Oil and in several positions with the Town of Morris. Working at the Morris Water Treatment Facility was the most significant to him. He was proud to have gone to the University of Manitoba for a week each year to learn the latest water treatment standards.
Ernie and Marj enjoyed bus tours to New England, Nashville, and Alaska during their retirement. When their home in Morris became too much to manage, they moved to a condo in St. Vital, Winnipeg. Ernie’s frequent treks to the mall had him meeting many people after a friendly hello and a joke to share. Centre court or the food court was where he drank his coffee and chatted with familiar and fellow mall regulars. In 2014, he moved to the Heritage Center Assisted Living complex in Rosenort MB, where he resided until his passing.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Heritage Center Common Room, 14 Spruce Crescent, Rosenort, MB with a private interment at Morris Cemetery following the service. There will be viewing prior to the service with a reception to follow. Pastor Leslie Poulin will officiate.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at Heritage Center who helped look after Dad as well as to the nurses, staff and Dr. Michael Fraser for the care they provided at Morris Hospital.
The family requests no flowers please.
